Hopper Bottom Experts / Family Owned

We run hopper bottoms out of northeast Kansas, and we run them a long way. Most weeks most of the freight is pet food ingredients. The rest is grain, feed, fertilizer, gypsum and salt.

Further than people expect

The name says Kansas and the yard is in Kansas, but Kansas is under a tenth of our miles. Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri and Texas carry the most of it. Past that we run the Midwest and the Southeast regularly, and we run to California and the Southwest often enough that we know our way around.

If we spent money on it, there's proof

Every driver here keeps his paperwork: bills of lading, load confirmations and washout tickets. That is a standing habit, not something we assemble when somebody asks.

It matters most on the pet food freight. If you need to know the trailer was washed out, the answer isn’t a shrug and a promise…there’s a ticket we can put our hands on. Electronic logs on every truck.

Dave's outfit

Dave Bascom started Heartland in 2002 with one truck. He didn’t write a business plan. He had a phone and a route and he showed up when he said he would.

Most of the customers on the board started with a phone call years ago and never left. The drivers came the same way. Call about a load and you’re talking to the person who knows where the truck is. If it’s running late you hear it from us first, and you hear why.

Dave still answers the phone.
